FIRST GUEST QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"...there are 563 Indian nations throughout America....

"One of the big problems that Indian Country faces ....is having the non-Indian societies states and federal courts respect the sovereignty in Tribal Court decisions....

"...there are still tremendous gaps in the enforcements on Indian Lands and...a gap in domestic violence and right prosecutions. If a non-Indian commits a crime in Indian country [the reservation-trust lands], the federal government has jurisdiction over that crime, the state government doesn't. So if it's non-Indian on Indian crime, the tribe can't prosecute and that is causing a tremendous amount of lack of prosecution, which is one of the reasons why ... Indians are more likely to be the victim of crime perpetrated by a non-Indian than, once again, any other ethnic group in society....and basically you've got no man's land out there where people are killing, rapping and assaulting our people."

SECOND GUEST QUOTE OF THE WEEK

" Just as a comment... about [Christopher] Columbus, it's kinda like having Jewish people celebrating Adolf Hitler's birthday. Columbus, himself, is directly responsible for the genocide that happened in the whole western hemisphere...."

WHAT SHOULD PROGRESSIVES BE DOING NOW?

"....The few progressives ensconced in some of these hardened and unresponsive institutions can access the national media and force the discussion. At the same time, they should be helping to fund the struggle at the local level-where the action is-so that local progressives can organize the meetings, make the phone calls, produce the leaflets and continue to educate and agitate."

FIGHTING WITH INFORMATION
GUEST INFORMATION

Addie Kyle, a forty year [Benton Harbor, Michigan] resident was sitting at a table outside the courthouse, taking a break as court observer last week. A juror, also on break, walked by and had a friendly conversation with Ms. Kyle. She commented to him that the courthouse is racist and Black people need to stick together more.

The next day two police officers showed up at her door wanting to know what she said to the juror, so she told the truth. They immediately issued a warrant for her arrest.

.... A few hours before her hearing a cross was burned in her front yard at 4am....
