Developments in Syria have taken on a sense of deeper urgency with the visit of United States Senator John McCain to rebel positions inside the country. McCain called again for the arming of the counter-revolutionaries by the Pentagon and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

This statement by McCain is deceptive because the U.S. and its allies in Europe and throughout the Middle East region are already supporting the rebels in Syria. The statement is only designed to enhance efforts to force the White House to begin a massive bombing campaign inside the Arab state.

There was a brief meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Kerry. They are scheduled to meet in a broader summit in June to discuss a possible political solution in Syria.

Abayomi Azikiwe, the editor of the Pan-African News Wire, has been a keen observer of the political situation in the Middle East for many years. Azikiwe is frequently consulted in regard to developments in Syria and throughout the entire region.

This interview was broadcast over RT worldwide satellite news on May 27, 2013.
