This program featured special guest Norman Otis Richmond of Toronto who knew the late Bobby Womack and many other musicians. Richmond posted a photograph of himself along with Sly Stone and Womack on the internet. He said the picture was taken in 1983 in Buffalo, New York.

A nearly hour-long conversation spanned the entire life and times of Womack who made his transition on June 27. Womack began as a gospel singer and later turned to rhythm & blues in the early 1960s where he recorded with the SAR label owned by the late Sam Cooke.

Other news items covered in this edition of the Pan-African Journal revolved around the ongoing instability and fighting taking place in both the West African state of Nigeria and the East African country of Kenya. The Horn of Africa nation of Somalia is connected with neighboring Kenya due to the presence of a large Somali population and the fight against the Islamic resistance group Al-Shabaab.

Despite the presence of 22,000 AMISOM troops in Somalia, the fighting is still continuing against Al-Shabaab. The armed opposition groups struck the presidential palace on July 8.

We are encouraging all of our listeners to share the podcasts of the Pan-African Journal through e-mail, blogs and websites as well as social media networks. The Pan-African Radio Network wants to get this information out as broadly as possible.
