All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, acknowledging cheers from supporters during the party’s presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt yesterday.

All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party government headed by President Goodluck Jonathan has ruined Nigeria.

Speaking at the launching of his presidential campaign at the Uyo Township stadium Buhari promised to put an end to the era of corrupt leadership and impunity in the country.

He said: “The Peoples Democratic Party has ruined this country, we have a lot to do, a lot to secure this country. We have reached a stage when we must send PDP out. PDP must go.

“Enough is enough. I tried to find out in the last 16 years how much we have fared but discovered that we have lost.

“Now you said you have oil money but your money is being stolen by your leaders. But when voted into power in February 14, 2015 I assure you that Nigerian wealth will belong to Nigeria, nobody will be given the opportunity to steal your wealth to invest somewhere else.

“We will draw a line when we come into power. Anybody who steals Nigerians kobo will find himself in jail.

“I advise you to go and obtain your Permanent Voters Cards and make sure that on Election Day you must go out to vote come rain, come sunshine. This is what is going to free you from the monster called PDP”

He said his administration would ensure steady power supply so that private and small businesses to thrive in order to reduce the lingering unemployment in the country.

The National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun described Gen. Buhari as a disciplined Nigerian who would bring the desired change to the country.

“I worked very closely with Gen. Muhammadu  Buhari. Thirty years ago he told us that there was Indiscipline; 30 years ago he said that there was corruption. What he saw 30 years ago and we did not see has almost destroyed our nation. Thirty years ago he emphasised the need to wipe these ills out.

They almost destroyed our nation,” he said.

Also speaking, Rivers State Governor  and Director  General of Buhari Campaign Organization Rotimi Amaechi urged Akwa Ibom people not to rely on “PDP empty promises”, saying, “If you think  that the PDP will sit down there and give you power you are wasting your time.

“We shall vote out this government of corruption. God has blessed us so well but bad leadership is our problem. We promise that  we shall create three million jobs through the Public Private Partnership, PPP when voted into power...”

The APC governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom, Mr. Umana Okon Umana who was earlier presented with the party flag by the National Chairman Oyegun, said, “We have had enough of uncommon propaganda. We are tired of impunity. It is now time for change. You are the one to elect your governor.

“I assure you that I will be accountable to Akwa Ibom people when voted into office and not to any godfather because I did not have any godfather and yet I was given the flag.’’

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Chairman recalled that as a military head of state Buhari reduced inflation from 23 to four percent, adding that this action made life easy for all Nigerians. He called on the people of Akwa Ibom state to vote massively for the APC in the forthcoming election.
Corruption index alarming in Nigeria -  Buhari

Earlier when he launched his campaign in Port Harcourt Buhari described the situation of unemployment in the country as “intolerable” adding that “insecurity and the poor economy, have been made worse by corruption.”

He said on assumption of office as Nigerian President he would fight corruption, insecurity, and create employment for teeming Nigerian youths.

“We have lined up program on how to tackle unemployment. We are going to assemble a team of professionals for wealth creation and employment for our teeming youths. We will put mechanism in place to fight insecurity, improve on the economy and fight corruption,” he said.

He commended governor Chibuike Amaechi for organising the rally pointing out that the choice of Rivers State as a kick-off point for the Presidential rally was a right choice.

The Speaker of House of Representatives Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said he defected from PDP to APC because it was the best decision for him at the moment.

He added: “We deserve a better Nigeria. We accompanied Buhari to the rally because we believe he is the right person to take Nigeria to a greater height.

“Today we have insecurity and high level of corruption in Nigeria. Many people were surprised that I defected from a ruling party to an opposition party. We don’t deserve the leadership we have at the centre. There is a clear indication that the people of Rivers State will vote for Buhari and all APC candidates”.

The APC national chairman, Chief John Oyegun said a vote for Buhari and APC would wipe out insecurity, Boko Haram and corruption. He said Buhari/Osibanjo ticket is a right combination stressing that the duo would bring about the desired change to Nigeria.

Earlier Rivers State governor Chibuike Amaechi called on the people of Rivers State to obtain their PVC cards as to enable them vote for Buhari and all APC candidates in 2015 general elections.

He said that his belief in God had frustrated the plans of his detractors to remove him from office adding “people collected money to remove us from office but they failed because of our trust in God”.

The rally was attended by governors Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and Rabiu Kwankwasho of Kano State, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Senator Chris Ngige and APC members in the national Assembly.
