Gunmen Abduct 40 Youths in Borno Village

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents have abducted 40 youths at Malari village in Damboa local government area of Borno State, Weekly Trust gathered yesterday. Our correspondent gathered that the incident happen on New Year eve but report about the abduction was disclosed to reporters in Maiduguri by some fleeing villagers yesterday.

Weekly Trust gathered that some youths between the ages of three and 23 years were taken away from the village which is about 20 kilometres away from the infamous Sambisa Forest.

A fleeing villager, Malam Bulama told newsmen that the incident happen at about 8:00 pm on Wednesday night, adding that the insurgents gathered males in the village and started preaching to them after which they forcefully went away with over 40 of them.

“They gathered us in front of the village head’s house for preaching after which they took over 40 males between the ages of 10 to 23 and move towards the Sambisa Forest,” Bulama said.

“Two of my sons and three sons of my relatives were among the youths taken away. They said they are not going to kill anybody but we have all fled the village in fear of our lives because we did not believe them,” he added.

A villager from the neighboring village of  Mulgwi, Garba Lawan, who also fled to Maiduguri said he also fled on hearing the report of the abduction.

The insurgents had in recent time being abducting and forcefully conscripting youths from villages and towns in Borno State.

There was no immediate confirmation on the latest abduction from either the police or the military as at the time of filing this report.
