Unknown assailants bombed an electricity pylon in Egypt's Sharqiya governorate early Saturday causing the pylon to fall, which then lead to a power outage in Al-Ghafareya village.

The assailants used four improvised explosive devices to destroy the pylon, an initial police investigation revealed.

The manager of electricity lines in Sharqiya, Hamdy Metwally, told official news agency MENA that alternate pylons were used to supply Al-Ghafareya village with electricity until a new pylon is built.

A new pylon will take two weeks to build, at a cost of LE1 million (around $131, 000), Metwally added.

Since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, militant attacks have been on the rise. Electricity pylons and railway tracks are often targeted.
