COSATU's Message of Support on the Occasion of the ANC's 105th Anniversary Rally Held at Orlando Stadium on the 8th January 2017
As COSATU we congratulate the ANC, the oldest liberation movement in Africa for reaching the 105th birthday.

The ANC is not just our ally, but it is an organization which has been chosen by millions of workers as their political home.

Workers know that it is the ANC which liberated them. It is for this reason that as COSATU we have come here today to say that we want a united ANC.

1. We want a United ANC because it is a united ANC which liberated this country.

2. We want a united ANC because it is a united ANC that earned the respect of the international community even of our apartheid enemies.

3. We want a united ANC because it is a united ANC that can unite South Africa.

4. Without the unity of the ANC the gains of our revolution will be undermined and ultimately reversed.

5. We want an ANC which communicate a single message of unity to our people.

6. As COSATU we will do everything to get the ANC to be united. We are certain that as the ANC prepares for a Consultative Conference and the National Conference, these will not be talk shops and that these meetings will not become platforms to deepen divisions but will instead be used to cement unity.

7. These should be used as platforms to ensure frank discussions and to strengthening the unity of the ANC.

8. These discussions in the forthcoming conferences must not be empty of meaning, and must not be allowed to distract the ANC's attention from real problems and turned the organization into a debating club, a conglomeration of factions and groupings.

9. Conferences must be seen as internal organizational platforms for internal organizational self criticism and self purging which must be seen as a weapon for strengthening the organization and increasing its fighting capacity.

10. We want an ANC with the capacity to decisively fight against tribalism which is beginning to raise its ugly head both inside the movement and in our society. We want an ANC that can decisively fight against all the manifestations of racism in our society.

11. We are not calling for unity of the ANC for its own sake but we want the unity of the ANC which will build its fighting capacity to aggressively pursue a second more radical phase of our struggle.

12. We don't want an ANC which fears the ideologues and agencies of the markets. We don't want an ANC which will be dictated to by the rating agencies!

13. We want the ANC to decisively act and ban labor brokers! We want the ANC to ensure that the National health Insurance is implemented in our life time!

14. We want an ANC that will move to ensure that there is a state pharmaceutical company

15. We want an ANC that will move and ensure that there is Free Higher Education in South Africa

16. We want an ANC that will implement the comprehensive Social Security

17. We are not calling for unity of the ANC because it has become fashionable to do so and others even do so as they simultaneously deepen divisions inside the movement.

18. The Unity of the ANC must start by correcting the wrongs we identified in the Alliance Summits. These include defeating the use of money to determine election outcomes in ANC structures, defeating the tendency of gate keeping against increasing branch membership.

19. People who want to join the ANC must be allowed to join the ANC through following constitutional processes. The ANC is a people's movement and therefore people must be allowed into the ranks of the ANC.

20. We want unity that can translate to the ANC regaining its fighting capacity as a liberation movement. We want unity that can result to the ANC regaining the lost ground. We want unity which will translate to the ANC regaining its credibility and winning back the trust of our people.

21. We want unity of the ANC that can translate to the ANC having capacity to fight against corruption.

22. We want unity of the ANC which will translate to the unity of the Alliance. We want the unity of the ANC which will translate to implementing the Alliance resolutions and the ANC's progressive resolutions on radical economic transformation and organizational renewal.

23. We want the unity of the ANC that will translate to us regaining control where we lost elections. We want unity of the ANC that will reassert the ANC's hegemony in all centres of power including in government.

24. We want our Western Cape back; we want our Cape Town metro back. We want our Nelson Mandela metro back. We want our Tshwane Metro back. We want our Johannesburg Metro Back. More importantly we want our parliament back.

25. The opposition has taken the democratic parliament and turned it into a platform of mobilizing society against the democratic movement, this must now come to an end. Every state of the Nation address must be accompanied by mass activities on the ground. Debates in parliament must connect with ANC branch activities. We must now creatively link state power with mass power.

26. Our people love the ANC. They know who liberated them and where we have committed mistakes; we must all admit and ensure self correction.

27. Our people want honest and trustworthy leaders; our people want an ANC which can fight poverty. Our people want an ANC that can use its access to state power to create jobs and fight inequality.

28. Our people want an ANC which can give back their stolen land. Our people want an ANC which can redistribute wealth to the working class and the poor. Our people want an ANC that is decisive on economic transformation.

This 105th anniversary of the movement must mean turning a new chapter in our liberation struggle towards a second more radical phase of our transition.

As COSATU sithi unwele olude kuwe Khongolose wabantu!

Long live the people's movement!
